Songs For The Main Stages of Your Breakup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Breakups can feel crushing; there’s no doubt about it. You feel so many emotions, from sadness to anger, all at once. A lot of the time you avoid being around people, and instead, turn to music. Similarly, many artists express their emotions from breakups through music, so there is no shortage of relatable songs on the subject. In no particular order, here are songs for the three main stages of your breakup:

Sadness

There’s a certain feeling of indulgence in listening to sad music when you’re already sad. It feels good to let yourself cry and let everything out. It may take a while, but it will feel better over time.

Bargaining

At a certain point, you may start to think, “Maybe I wasn’t ready to let go just yet.” You reminisce and you long for them. It feels a little destructive but it’s completely normal, and this too will pass.
