I’ve been seeing a lot on social media that many young women are planning on having a ‘Hot Girl Summer.’ To me, before we become the ‘Hot Girl,’ a glow up is needed, where we put more effort into ourselves as women, being healthy and beautiful physically and mentally, all while having a fun ass time this summer safely and with our girlfriends! Wanna know how to glow up? I’ve listed a few ideas below.

Ditch toxic attachments/relationships.

You can’t be the carefree hot girl if you’re constantly obsessing over some of these college guys whose brains aren’t even fully developed. Cut off any boys holding you back in your personal, mental, emotional, physical, and if it applies, spiritual, growth. We’re here to better ourselves this summer. Chad isn’t going to help with that. So, ditch ‘em. No boy (unless he’s one of the rare good ones) will contribute to our happiness. We make our own happiness – it starts with ourselves. Same goes for women who are into women. At the end of the day, we personally make our own happiness, and we must find that within ourselves instead of in another person, regardless of how they make us feel. Also, we’re young!!! Let’s not tie ourselves down so early in life. Have fun (carefully) but don’t get into a serious relationship unless that’s what you truly desire. If you really just want attention, you’ll surely get it once you adapt the Hot Girl mindset (but you won’t need it). This also can go for toxic friendships and family members as well.

Get in touch with yourself.

Journaling, drawing, going to therapy, etc. Get out your thoughts, feelings, grievances, problems, excitement, and all that by doing something where you can physically talk, write, or draw it out. It’s not good for us to internalize everything, despite our societal norm of being cold and uncaring. As women, we are emotional beings, and we can connect better with ourselves and the world if we let ourselves be vulnerable sometimes. You can still be the most powerful person in the room even if you cry sometimes. I personally journal everyday; gratitude journaling, blurbs of how I feel, I write poetry, and I draw in my journal! It’s therapeutic and a stress reliever. Try anything where you can get it out of your system.

Take care of your physical self.

Taking cold showers, exercising regularly, eating generally healthy with lots of fruits and veggies, taking your meds and vitamins/supplements, and getting in the fresh air will work f***ing wonders. Try to create routines for these things; I know it’s helped me immensely in my little glow up journey. Also, very important: skincare day n’ night ladies!

Creating + hobbies.

Women are natural creators, so anything we do where we create is a part of our nature! Gardening, making art, writing, dancing, sewing etc. Once you think of it less of ‘doing said activity’ and more of ‘creating’ you’ll feel more powerful. This ties into having hobbies. Anything you like to do in your spare time that you’re passionate about is a hobby. If you don’t have any hobbies, try to find some. It’ll bring a sense of purposefulness into your life and will help you feel more full and lively.

Take no sh*t, do no harm.

Never start any kind of drama, but if you’re being dragged into it, put a halt to it. Be firm in who you are and do not let anyone try to cross you. At the same time, remain poised and true to yourself. Don’t talk sh*t about anyone, especially other women, as it makes you look insecure. Mind your business on matters that don’t concern you or your loved ones, but be ready to classily defend yourself and your friends if need be.

Remember that you’re a Hot Girl.

No one can make you feel inferior or less than without your consent. Don’t slip up and think down on yourself. Main character energy always.

Obviously, this can be edited and tailored to anyone’s lifestyle. You do what works for you, this is simply an idea list for how to glow up in ways that are more than just physical. I personally believe we glow up inside before on the outside!
