Some of the best ways to have a great semester don’t have anything to do with the classes your taking, but what you do outside of them. Here are some suggestions of things you can do to make this your best semester yet!

  1. Clean your room once a week!If you clean your room once a week instead of once a month, you’ll find that cleaning not only is faster, but also you will feel better. Living in a dorm room is a crowded space as is, but by keeping it clean you can feel as if you have more room. I’m not saying you have to go crazy and clean every single thing in your room. Just run a Swiffer over the floor and Clorox wipe your desk, the doorknobs, and light switches. Doing all of this takes 10 minutes max normally less than that. It won’t only make your room feel nicer to be in, but it can also help prevent you from getting sick!
  2. Try to stay organized! There is no need to have everything in order, no one is perfect or needs to be perfect. But if you try to keep all of your shoes for example in one spot and your jackets in another place it will make things a lot easier if you are in a rush. Get folders to keep your papers from class in. By doing this you will always have the information you need.
  3. Put things away have you are done with themNothing is more annoying then going to look for something and not being able to find it. To prevent this put things away when you are done with them. Now I don’t mean taking, your shoes in and out of the closet every time you take them on and off. But instead of having everything pile up, at the end of the day put them away. The same can be said about dishes. Once you are done with a dish wash it and put it away. By doing these things you cut down on the clutter in your room, which is only stressing you out even more than you are already.
  4. Take 5 minutes to an hour out of your day for yourselfThis may seem cliché, but if you take this time and just breath and relax you will find yourself so much more relaxed. While you can check your social media during this time, I would suggest something a little different. Try reading a book, or watching a short TV show. You could even do a little stretching, yoga, or go for a leisurely run. Do anything that relaxes you. Doing this will help you de-stress and have a happier semester.
  5. Get off CampusWhether you actually need to or not go to White Plains or the City once a week just to get off campus. Sometimes getting away from the place where all your stress is can make everything better. Even if you just go to White Plains get off the bus at the first stop and get back on at the last stop. Just walking around and not being at school will make you feel ten times better. That is why my friends and I try to either go to the city and do something or have dinner off campus once a week. If you are looking for something cheap to do, just go for a walk around the mall and go window-shopping.

These are just some of the things I do to make myself relax during the stressful school year. I hope you all have fabulous semester and with as little stress as possible! Good Luck Valiants!!
