that’s how she would describe them

two distinct paths

suddenly colliding

meeting together unexpectedly

threads intertwining, lives entangling

then splitting into their own paths once more

to never cross again

how is it possible

to coil so tightly

to be so engrossed in someone else

and then be expected to pry away

like nothing ever happened

even though the wounds from separating

burned her every day

and she’s supposed to be totally okay with it

because that’s just how it is now

and she’s supposed to look forward

when a piece of her was missing

what was she going to do with all that time

all that space

all that love

that used to be taken up by them

the path only got further

more distant from the point they were together

and as the space between their journeys widened

she would force herself to heal

hoping and praying that the next one she meets

won’t just be another
