Why “I Still Believe” is a Must-Watch While in Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Bored out of your mind from watching Tik Tok’s all day? Need something to do while you’re stuck quarantined inside your house? Now that you can access and watch movies that were originally intended to be in theaters at home, I’ll suggest a good one. How about “I Still Believe?” It is directed by Andrew Erwin and Jon Erwin, produced by Kevin Downes, and it’s even starring everyone’s favorite actor: K.J. Apa.

Fun fact — the movie’s plot is actually based on a real-life character and story: The life of Christian rock sensation and star, Jeremy Camp. Apa stars as college student Jeremy Camp who loves music and decides to pursue it at Liberty University. While there, he happens to make an extraordinary connection with rock sensation Jean-Luc Lajoie, played by Nathan Parsons, and ends up, over time, becoming close friends with him. Lajoie even lets Camp perform with him on stage. After a special performance one night, Camp locks eyes with blonde beauty Melissa Lynn Henning-Camp, played by Britt Robertson. Immediately they both are intrigued by one another and know they have a connection. However, Camp later learns that his good friend Jean-Luc is actually best friends with Melissa and is also romantically interested in her as well.

Camp learns to deal with the hardships/sacrifices that come with hurting the people close to him, even though in the long run he realizes it’s some of the best decisions he could’ve made for himself in his life. He copes with this by writing his music and sharing it with the people he holds closest to his heart, also hoping to touch the lives of his listeners along the way. His story deals with sorrow, pain, loss, heartbreak, and mourning, but he also learns what love, compassion, and faith truly mean.

So what do I think about Camp’s story and the movie itself? Two words: powerful and inspirational. I’ll be honest, you can expect to cry a few times throughout the movie. I did — five times — but it was worth it. The movie alone was that good. The best part of the movie to me was the fact that it reminded me of important life lessons. For example, the value of living every day to the fullest and sacrificing things for people you love. The movie is currently available on platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play. Overall, it was a beautiful story with a wonderful and special meaning behind it. I would rate the movie 9/10 stars and, if you have the time to see it, I would recommend it highly. This movie is something that you won’t want to miss seeing.
