What is NSCS? NSCS stands for “National Society of Collegiate Scholars.” It is the nation’s premiere organization that recognizes and elevates high achievers. NSCS provides career and graduate school connections, leadership and service opportunities and offers over $1 million in scholarships annually.
When did you become involved with NSCS? I became an NSCS member in 2012, when I was a freshman. I became the Executive Vice President in July 2016.
How large is the NSCS at Michigan State? We currently have over 1,000 members at Michigan State University. We are the largest student organization on campus.
What does your position entail? I collaborate with the chapter president to ensure the growth and success of the chapter. I also initiate collaboration between our chapter and other groups and organizations, as well as plan and organize the New Member Induction Ceremony. Securing speakers for meetings, events and other activities is another important aspect of my position.
What do you like most about NSCS? Opportunities. NSCS is a place full of opportunities – scholarships, volunteering services, high school tutoring and social networking. I met a lot of great people here, and the services we did not only made me a better person, but also enriched my experience and recognition of the community around me. NSCS also holds a national event called “ScholarCon” every year that brings members from all over the nation together and holds great talks with excellent professionals from different fields.
How could someone get involved or join NSCS? Membership is by invitation only and is offered to those students who carry a 3.4 grade point average or higher.
