What on campus group(s) are you involved in?

North Neighborhood Black Caucus, or NNBC and theBlack Women’s Leadership Conference, OR BWLC.

What kind of work do you do?

For NNBC, I serve as the president of the org. in which I organize different community events for the Caucus and assure that there’s inclusive spaces for students to go to on campus. Our mission is to establish a safe space for black students in North Neighborhood, as well as a brave space for those of all racial and ethnic identities. In BWLC, I’m on the request for proposal’s committee where I try to find speakers to talk at the conference in the spring. The conference is essentially an event to showcase black women that are doing great work in fields of philanthropy.

What does this group mean to you personally?

Both groups bring a sense of community to me in which I feel like I belong at MSU. They are spaces that promote and honor my existence as a person of color and help me find the proper resources to guarantee my success.

How can others get involved?

Black Caucus hosts general assemblies and community nights every week at both Yakeley and Mason Hall from 7-8:30 p.m.

Do you plan on continuing with this type of work after graduation?

I would be interested in working with non-profits that work around uplifting women of color.

What do you want others to know about your group?

Black Caucus is an inclusive space that accepts all people/identities.

Outside of your organization, how do you like to spend your free time?

Going to campus events, listening to music, kickbacks with friends.

Who is your biggest role model and why?

Issa Rae inspires me to be my natural self and to embrace all my awkward tendencies.

What advice can you give to students looking to get involved on campus?

It all starts with meeting new people and discovering what you’re passionate about.
