As the leaves change and the semester progresses, you might be wondering what to do here in East Lansing in your free time. There are plenty of things to do this fall semester; from going to a cider mill, having a movie night with friends, or attending an MSU basketball game. The fall season is the perfect time to explore new things and meet people. Here are five things to do in the area this fall:

1. Check Out Uncle John’s Cider Mill

About a half hour drive from campus, Uncle John’s is the largest cider mill in the area. They have homemade apple cider and cinnamon sugar donuts. There is a corn maze, a you-pick pumpkin patch, food trucks, and scheduled events to pick from throughout the week. There are plenty of cute photo op areas for you and your friends.

2. Go to a Michigan State Basketball or Hockey game

Michigan State University is known for its Division 1 athletic programs, so it’s not surprising that going to a game is on this list! My personal favorites are men’s basketball and men’s ice hockey. I may be biased here since I am an Izzone member, but the basketball games are a ton of fun. I’d check out the MSU Athletics website for a list of game dates!

3. Have a Movie Night with Friends

A movie night is a fun way to relax with friends, whether you’re staying in to watch movies or want to catch a movie on campus or online through Residential Halls Association (RHA) Campus Center Cinemas. I recommend buying snacks, getting takeout, or baking some sort of treat to have. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to have a good time!

4. Go On A Club Hayride

Hayrides are a quintessential Michigan State University experience. Student’s buy jugs to paint, usually with some sort of funny meme. Typically they’re organized by clubs you may have joined earlier in the semester. Spending time with your friends at a corn field or sitting by a bonfire is something I look forward to.

5. Do a Self Care Activity

Fall semester can get stressful so it’s important to take time for your mental health. Some ideas include treating yourself to a fall drink at Fosters Coffee or Strange Matter, getting a haircut or your nails done, or working out. While these ideas aren’t necessarily exclusive to the fall time, taking care of yourself is crucial especially with all the stress that comes with being in college. Take time for yourself!

As you take in the fall season, definitely consider spending time doing one or more of these activities. They will be sure to put you in the fall mood and help you make memories with friends on campus to last you into the winter season. Make the most of this time of year; there’s a ton of things to do!
