Spring Break ’13 Guide to Swimwear

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Spring break is rapidly approaching for us Spartans (March 4th!), and many of us are escaping and heading south for some much needed warmth and sunshine. While many of us are concerned with getting our beach bodies ready, we may have neglected to find the perfect swimwear to showcase all that hard work. Her Campus has the perfect suit for you, whether it is the classic triangle, or the new style for the season, the Mid-kini!

“Mid-kini”

New for this season is the mid-kini! It is fashioned like a bustier and cuts off right around the bottom of the rib cage. It provides support and lift, making it great for women with all breast sizes. It is perfect for beach sports like volleyball because the cups will keep the girls in place!

“Crop Top”

The crop top style bikini top is a flowy alternative for a relaxed beach look.  It offers more coverage than a triangle and a bandeau, but not as much as a tankini. This is also good for those of you into water sports because the chances of you revealing too much is decreased.

“Triangle”

The triangle is simple and classic, yet a more revealing swimsuit choice. With only a few strings holding it all together, this is a daring choice for those girls who are larger than a D cup.

“Bandeau”

If you’re strictly looking to tan, a bandeau is the best option for you. It avoids tan lines on your collarbone and allows you to get an even tan. This choice is also great for those who need some extra support. This style often comes with a push up option if you’re looking to accentuate your assets.

“Tankini”

Tankinis provide coverage and shape to those who want to leave something to the imagination! If you are uncomfortable showing your stomach, you can opt to cover it with this style. If you want to avoid looking like you are 40+ years old, Victoria’s Secret has some options that are sexy, without being too skimpy!

“One Piece”

Of course the traditional one piece is always an option. The one piece has evolved from something matronly to something that can have ruffles and cut outs. Dark colored one-pieces can be slimming and alluring while keeping you covered. You can also opt for a retro 40’s look with a halter-top, slimming panels and polka dots.

“Romper”

For those who don’t want to bear it all on the beach and would like to go for something a little more modest, Victoria’s Secret has introduced the “Romy Romper” bathing suit to their 2013 collection. This option gives you coverage, and would be comfortable to wear for a long day at the beach.
