Snowflake and Studying: Cozy Corners of MSU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

As the weather gets colder and exam season rolls around, you’re going to need some cozy study spots. Michigan State is a huge campus, which means there are lots of choices. Let’s explore some of my favorite nooks where you can hunker down and hit the books!

Main Library

With it being open 24/7 and having plenty of resources, the library is a given. There are many quiet spots you can find throughout the various floors. I especially like sitting in a booth by the windows, so I can immerse myself in the winter wonderland outside while studying. If only the Starbucks would finish construction, it would be perfect.

Packaging Building

As a communication major, I spent a lot of time at the Communication Arts & Sciences Building, which is right next to the Packaging Building. Recently renovated, it is a great place for studying and became my go-to spot between classes. It is a bit smaller, making spots limited, but it creates a more peaceful environment.

IM West

The second floor of IM West is what I consider my secret study spot. Booths with outlets provide the perfect setting to hit the books after a workout or before a day’s tasks. If you sit in certain spots, you might even be able to watch a soccer, basketball, or volleyball game when you need a study break.

The Union

The Union is especially convenient because of how close it is to Grand River and the bus stops. There are lots of well-lit spots to study, and as an added bonus, there’s Strange Matter and a Sparty’s there!

Brody Hall

As a former resident of Brody Neighborhood, I may be biased when I say the study lounge in Brody is a personal favorite. I snack when studying, so the close proximity to the dining hall and a Sparty’s is ideal. Also, the dry-erase boards and computer lab with a printer make it an easy spot to go for all your academic needs.

As winter quickly approaches, grab your coat and books so you can make your way to these cozy study spots on campus. Whether you’re looking at a winter wonderland through the windows of the Main Library, sipping a hot latte in the Union, or studying between classes, each spot will give you the space to be warm and productive.
