Now that the school year has come to a close, our resident fashion guru has a few things they’d like to get off of their chest. Take these fashion woes with a grain of salt, or take them to heart if you choose. Regardless, it’s all in fun and no college fashionista was harmed in the making of this article. Â
In my humble opinion, there are eight college fashion trends that make no sense and should probably be illegal.
Let’s start withVera Bradley: Last time I checked most 20-somethings would never think to rummage through their grandmother’s closet for the latest “it” item. So, I don’t know when or how this trend got started. It looks like a bag made out of your grandmother’s bedspread. I don’t care how much it costs!
Hunter boots: Ok, so maybe these aren’t so bad on a rainy day, but these boots have now become an everyday winter boot and they are nothing shy of tacky. Prior to boots of this sort becoming a trend, the only time I saw someone wearing these was if they were going fly fishing in the middle of a river.
Longchamp bags: So, maybe these aren’t that terrible but they are also nothing special. For a designer bag, they are oddly similar to tote bags for purchase from your local library.
Timberlands: There is absolutely nothing stylish about these boots. Who came up with this trashy fashion statement? These are for construction workers and laborers ONLY. And that color…ohhhh that color.
Sperry Top Siders: Sperry’s were made for boating and let’s just say they should have stayed that way. Could you imagine Anna Wintour wearing these walking down the street?
Designer logo bags: According to “Classy,” by fashion writer Derek Blasberg, no matter how much you spend on a bag―especially a designer bag―there is nothing more trashy and gaudy than one covered in logos. It screams, “look at me, I spent my entire paycheck on this bag and you needed to know!”
Ugg boots: I read somewhere that Europeans think Americans “always look like they just finished cutting their lawns.” I’m going to assume that’s their way of saying Americans dress lazily. Maybe that’s how wearing slippers everyday became a popular and acceptable fashion statement.
The North Face jackets: Out of all the different style of jackets coats to become popular during the cold winter months, these fleece jackets would have to be the most unstylish of them all. Why settle for these when you could invest in a wool peacoat or a fur-lined parka? Just saying…
