Three ways I would describe the Screaming In The Dark Tour are sensational, high-spirited, and captivating. I went to The Band CAMINO’s Grand Rapids concert Friday, Oct. 13. It was at GLC Live at 20 Monroe, which is just across the street from Van Andel Arena.
I had never been to this venue before, and I had no idea what to expect. I knew that my sister had gotten us floor tickets, so I figured that we would be sitting in a row of chairs. It was much better than that. The way the venue was set up was that there was seating on the second level and open standing room on the first level. To my surprise, I was, in essence, in the pit. Luckily, they had a coat check on the first level. This was very convenient since it was cold and raining outside and everyone was able to leave their coats and jackets there instead of having to hold them for the entire concert.
The Band CAMINO had two opening bands. First to come on was The Wldlfe. They were an amazing band to have as an opener. The energy that they brought on completely changed everyone’s mood and got us warmed up. Even though I had never heard of them, they are now added to almost all of my playlists. The second band to perform was Bad Suns. Similar to The Wldlfe, they brought on incredible energy. They told the crowd that they had been a band for quite a while, and it showed. Their stage presence was amazing and their songs were incredible. Again, they are also now added to almost all of my playlists. Overall, I am so happy with learning about these two bands, and hopefully I can go to their concerts in the future.
I first learned about The Band CAMINO when I saw them as Dan + Shay’s opener two years ago at Van Andel Arena. I found this as almost a full-circle moment because when I first saw Dan + Shay they were still quite small, performing in my hometown at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan. Then, when I first saw The Band CAMINO they were openers and now headliners. It was incredible to see them grow.
In terms of how they did, I really have no words. They brought the stage presence, crowd work, and much more. Everyone in the venue was singing at the top of our lungs and dancing like crazy. One song that I was excited to hear live was “1 Last Cigarette.” It is safe to say they did not disappoint on that, or really on any of their songs. Another moment I loved was when they took a moment to slow down and do an acoustic part of their concert. It was very special to listen to all the heart and soul that goes into their music. They were also taking requests from the audience of what to sing for that part, which I thought was really sweet.
Overall, I had an amazing experience going to this concert, and I would recommend seeing all of these bands in a heartbeat.
