Our HC Insider Talks to two MSU Seniors About Life, Memories and Football at MSU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

The terms, Senioritis has a whole new meaning in college. Instead of jumping for joy once you turn in that last book report and scramble to get everyone to sign your yearbook, we’re dreading sending in our graduation application and saying goodbye to college drink specials. But, it’s inevitable, it’s time to purchase those caps and gowns, it’s time to graduate. Although the days of losing your voice from singing the MSU fight song and drinking double shots of espresso at 4 a.m. may be gone, there’s still lots to look forward to post graduation and no matter where you end up in life, you’ll always be a Spartan.

Meet two seniors who share their experiences and fondest memories here at MSU, what they’ve learned and what they have in store for the future.

Meagan Creutz, Finance senior.

HCMSU: If you could go back to your freshman year at MSU, is there anything you would change? Do you have any regrets?

MC: If I could go back to freshman year, I would take more classes in subjects where I’m curious about the material and interested in learning more. Who knows what I would be doing right now if I had taken more classes in subjects like computer science or environmental science!

HCMSU:What are your plans after graduation? Describe how MSU has helped prepare you for the “real world.” Do you feel ready?

MC: After graduation, I plan on taking some more classes through MSU and then some more through local universities near my hometown that I need as prerequisites for graduate school programs I’m looking into applying for later. I’ll also look for a job in the meantime near home, and if it turns out that I like it, we’ll see where it goes!

I feel MSU helped me prepare for the real world with learning to interact with people from different backgrounds and views, helping me become more open to new ideas and more tolerable, which is important in the workforce.

HCMSU: What has been your most memorable/favorite moment as a Spartan?

MC: I love going to the football games, and my favorite moment and game was the one against Notre Dame in 2010 with the Little Giants play. Everyone was hugging each other even though if they didn’t know who the other person was and high-fiving, it was really exciting.

HCMSU: Ideally, where would you like to see yourself in the future?
MC: To be honest, I’m not sure. I just want to find something I enjoy doing as work every day, have a healthy balance between my career and my life, and be happy.

HCMSU: What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned since being at MSU?
MC: The biggest lesson I’ve learned since being at school is definitely time management and that the only person that is holding you accountable for your actions is yourself.

HCMSU: What are you going to miss the most about college?
MC: I’m going to miss living in a community where everyone has a connection in some way by being tied to MSU. It gives you a sense of security and that you’re a part of something big. I know I’ll always be a part of the MSU community after I graduate, but nothing beats being here in East Lansing with your friends and fellow Spartans.

Clay Hagen, Urban and Regional Planning senior.

HCMSU:If you could go back to your freshman year at MSU, is there anything you would change? Do you have any regrets?

CH: In my freshman year I wish I would have gone in blind for my roommate instead of rooming with someone that I already knew. I feel that going in blind would have allowed me to meet more people and get a better feel of the freshman experience. Other than my living experience I would say that I didn’t have any regrets.

HCMSU: What are your plans after graduation? Describe how MSU has helped prepare you for the “real world.” Do you feel ready?

CH: After graduating I plan on perusing a career in Urban Planning. I’m trying to get an internship for this summer and if that is successful, I feel that it will give me a push in the right direction for getting the job that I want. I feel that MSU has given me the right education that I need to get where I am going but has lacked in overall guidance.

HCMSU: What has been your most memorable/favorite moment as a Spartan?

CH: There have been many great moments throughout my college experience but my favorite would have to be at the MSU and Wisconsin football game earlier this year when we won on a hail marry pass.

HCMSU: What is the main reason you are staying in school a fifth year?

CH: I ended up changing my major at the end of my sophomore year and the program that I got into was a three year program, ultimately extending my stay here at MSU.

HCMSU: Ideally, where would you like to see yourself in the future?

CH: In the future I hope to have a prominent job in city development that will be able to support me and/or my family.

HCMSU: What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned since being at MSU?

CH: The biggest lesson that I have learned at MSU is that, what you put in is what you get out. Meaning that you have to work hard to get the things that mean the most to you. Also, don’t pass out with your shoes on!
