Layering up for fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Fall temperatures are officially here! Time to bring out the scarves, tights, and boots; oh my! Wave goodbye to those scorching summer days and welcome the cool fall trends. It’s not quite time for a heavy coat, but layering and warm colors are sure to keep the chilly weather away on these upcoming autumn days.

There is no excuse for looking frumpy when dressing for colder weather. Layering up becomes the perfect perfect tool to complete an outfit. Button-ups with cardigans, jean jackets with chunky knit scarves, and long sleeves under fashion tees are quick and easy layered looks.

Keep in mind to mix-n-match textures and patterns to come up with something truly unique. If you haven’t quite readied your wardrobe for this time of year, wearing cut-out tights under a summer dress while adding a blazer and combat boots allows you to hang onto some of your summer clothes for just a little bit longer. Don’t forget, even though heavy coats are frowned upon this time of year, a fabulous light weight trench coat is always appropriate–especially when rain is near.

Although the leaves are changing to beautiful bright colors, fall is the perfect time to transition into wearing those warm earth tones. Fall shades can make make their way not only into your closet, but your make-up bag and and nail polishes too. Keep outfits cohesive by wearing deeper colored make-up that compliment your overall ensemble!
