HC Formally Invites You To Read Our Guide to Spring Formal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

It’s that time of the year again, and you’re sorority is beginning it’s countdown to this year’s formal. Slightly fancier than semi, but don’t you dare wear an actual prom dress, because yes, in this situation, there is such a thing as “overdressing.” If you’re anything like me (the average college student), then your formal came out of nowhere and is finally only a week away, leaving you with no dress, no date and no game plan. But do not worry, this trusty lady has all the solutions to make your formal a night that you won’t ever forget.

The Dress of Your Dreams

Finding a dress for any occasion is stressful. Unfortunately, we don’t have a fairy godmother to whip out a beautiful one just for us. You might have gained a few pounds from all of the stress eating you’ve encountered from final weeks sneaking up. Your bank account might be looking a little dry (too much online shopping and late night JJ’s). What is a girl to do? Easiest solution: Borrow a dress! Chances are, since you are in a sorority, you have 50+ girls that you could ask! Most likely, a handful of them have good taste in formal wear. Most friends of mine love to let people borrow things because it means that they can get use out of them. A $30 dress sitting in a closet since last spring is dying to be worn.

The Date that Sweeps You Off Your Feet

Unless you’re in a relationship, chances are, you have no clue which gentlemen or lady friend to bring to formal. In order for them to be your dream date, they must fulfill at least two requirements:

  1. They must be able to rock formal attire. They can’t show up in cowboy boots and a cowboy hat to an academy awards-themed formal.
  2. They have to be able to know how to let loose and have a fun time.

Number two is always a struggle when it comes to finding the perfect date. Some people tend to get incredibly awkward around strangers.

If you cannot find someone to fit these two criteria, then consider being set-up by one of your sisters. Yes, there’s a chance that the guy is definitely not your type, but at least you have the perfect opportunity to gain a new friend.

The Dinner that You Actually Plan a Reservation For

Depending on where your formal is taking place, you might not have to even think twice about making dinner reservations or plans. Just make sure that you eat before all of the night’s festivities; no one has fun on an empty stomach.

The Dance that People Record You Doing to Later Post on Youtube

One of my favorite parts of any high school dance was the dancing. It didn’t matter if I attended solo or with a lame date; I would always end up dancing the night away with my girls. We remained side-by-side as I tried to wobble, dougie, perfect the cha-cha-slide and remember every word to the Cupid Shuffle. I said I liked dancing, not that I was ever good at it. If they don’t play at least one slow song at your formal, then the DJ sucks.

The Final Countdown

Let the countdown begin, because your formal will be here before you know it, with all of those Instagram-worthy pictures and an endless night of memories with your sisters.
