when she thinks

what made her happy

she thinks back to those moments

when opening the window

carried in the bustle of the city

when the pink hue of the sinking sun

cast the most beautiful glow on the cream buildings

when the breeze from the approaching metro

just barely covered the echo of their laughs

she thinks back to

the warm sunshine they basked in

leading them into the cool nights they danced through

from the gardens to the seas

and everything in between

the beauty never seized to leave them breathless

and although their feet were aching

exhaustion overcoming their beings

their hearts were beating

they were alive

the chaos in the unfamiliar place

and the spontaneity of each day

brought strangers together

across the world

what a strange way fate works

as they all found their home thousands of miles away

with each other

and with each other did they realize

what it meant to live

what it meant to be free

knowing they’ll look back and remember

each moment that became a part of their core

a time when they were their happiest

and so she thinks

with the memories fresh in her mind

the feelings alive in her heart

what a blessing it is to have experienced

pure happiness
