This year has been incredible. I have obtained so many opportunities and new experiences as a freshman at Michigan State University. It has given me a taste of what adulthood is really like whilst still getting to be a student. As this year is coming to an end though, it has me thinking about moving back home.

When I was in high school, my parents weren’t super strict but there were definitely ground rules that I had to follow. These were things like texting them when I went to certain places, letting them know when I would be home, and keeping my room clean. Coming back home from college, I will be expected to keep those same standards, and I think it is going to be difficult to shift back into that routine. I also hypothesize I will have a little more freedom though. Not that I couldn’t do a ton of things before college, but now I think my parents will trust me to be able to take care of myself a little more than before.

Aside from my responsibilities, there are a lot of things I miss about living at home. I miss cooking, and the meals my parents make. I have been dreaming of things like my dad’s grilled chicken wings and my mom’s lemonade. I miss being able to make cookies whenever I want and create new dishes for myself.

Also, I am so excited to get back to having my own bedroom. Dorm life has been fun as I honestly do not really mind it that much, but it is getting to a point where I just want my own space. I also miss getting time to myself in my house. I get time alone in my dorm a lot, but that feels different to me. There is something special about sitting in my living room by myself sometimes.

Finally, I miss my home town friends. We have stayed in touch, and I talk to them often, but hanging out in person is a different experience. I am so excited to see everyone and hangout with them over the summer.

I have loved college life so far, and this year has been so much fun! I am excited to go home, and figure out my routine there again over the summer. Even though it’s going to be really busy and I am going to be working a lot, I am hoping to balance everything out well. This summer will be a mix of challenges and good times, but hey — that’s what life is, isn’t it?
