Summer may have come and gone but that doesn’t mean it’s time for the winter blues to kick in.  Fall at MSU is one of the most exciting and not to mention beautiful times of the year.  It’s the time for cute sweaters, boots, scarves, and football…players: what’s not to love? Plus, the numerous possibilities for exciting and romantic activities make fall optimal for an intimate night – or day – with your guy.

Take it outside

Unless you haven’t left your dorm since the day you moved in, it is impossible to miss the beautiful colors of the leaves changing around campus.  Take advantage of it! Go for a walk along the river, show off your artsy side by taking some pictures and, if the weather permits, enjoy a little picnic.  Show off your strength and look cute while you two rake up a giant pile of leaves in his front yard.  It will show him that you don’t mind getting a little dirty, especially after you jump into the heap!  All the girls who walk by will be jealous of your adorable day outside, not to mention it’s productive and free.

If leaves aren’t your thing, take a trip and go to the local cider mill and be sure to take part in all the cheesy activities!

Take a hayride, get lost in the corn maze, and feed your sweet tooth with delicious fall treats like cider, caramel apples and donuts.  These family friendly spots are a great place to bring out your inner child, act a little goofy and just have fun.  (It’s also a great way to get a sneak-peak at how he is with kids; who doesn’t love a guy that’s great with kids?)  Before you leave, be sure to bring home a pumpkin for carving.  Work together on one or each make your own and have a competition to see whose is best!

Frightening flicks

Turn off the lights, get some popcorn, blankets and rent (or Netflix) some scary movies.  This inexpensive night in will let your guy feel strong and needed as he holds you close and protects you from the scary monsters.  It doesn’t hurt to play up the fright, either.

For a night out, check out the East Lansing Film Festival, in town Nov. 9-17.  You can dress up and do the classic, always romantic dinner and a movie while learning more about the independent film culture.

Get creative

One of the best days – or in college, weekends- of the year is Halloween.  Get to work and put together a couple’s costume with your guy.  Homemade costumes allow you to show off your creativity as well find common ground together.  Be characters from his favorite movie, something from an inside joke, salt-and-pepper shaker’s, anything you can make two of!  Don’t be afraid to get funny or scary.  This will show that you have a sense of humor and that you don’t always have to dress to impress.

Touchdown

There’s really no cure for Sunday afternoons when your guy wants to spend the day watching football, so the best solution is join him! Get together a group of friends, some pizza and beers (or if you’re under 21, grab that cider you bought earlier) and take it all in.  Even if you don’t know the difference between a touchdown and a home run, watching a sports game with a group is a great way to hang out with your guy and show that you can get along with his friends.  If you’re looking to do something extra special for him, there really hasn’t been a better time to take him to a Lion’s game!  A road trip to Detroit and a day of great football is the perfect time for a day of bonding.  Tickets can get pretty pricey, but any guy would be happy with even nosebleeds, which you can get for as little as $45 each.

Of course, don’t forget about our Spartans though! Tailgating and cheering on our amazing green and white probably tops the list of why you chose to go to MSU.  Even if you don’t have season tickets, go out and tailgate and then watch the game together at a friend’s.  He’ll love to see you decked out in your hair bow and State face tattoos.  You can always buy other students’ tickets to games for relatively cheap at www.allmsu.com

Use these tips to take advantage of the beautiful scenery and chilly weather to make the most out of any date.
