Exhaustion…

You know, that moment when your eyelids stop feeling like skin

but instead start feeling like magnets,

when your pen is gliding down the line and in two seconds

you’ve created an abstract rather than a portrait,

exhaustion.

Twists petals into thorns splitting skin and watching crimson red drip on layers of white,

turning the sun into nothing but a ball of fire flaming your eyes into pools of salt.

Exhaustion.

Not always making the good into bad but also shading dark into light.

Bricks become feathers caressing your body,

jackets engulf you like a blanket,

anywhere and everywhere becomes the perfect bed.

Exhaustion.

Not tired,

tired can be fixed with a coffee or a nap.

No, exhaustion,

exhaustion is when the longing for coffee disappears

and the nap becomes a full night’s sleep

yet still never enough to allow you to get up.

Exhaustion.
