Asian-Owned Small Business That You Should Shop From

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

It is a difficult time for businesses everywhere, but small businesses have had to work extra hard to keep themselves afloat. In addition, with Asian hate spreading more and more every day, it has been difficult for Asian businesses to thrive as much as they used to. With that in mind, I have listed a few Asian-owned small businesses that I hope you can give a try and replace your mainstream fast production products with.

Nguyen Coffee Supply

Nguyen Coffee Supply was founded by Sahra Nguyen, a first-generation Vietnamese-American, with the goal of introducing consumers to the coffee beans in Vietnam. This business partners with other farmers in Vietnam to allow consumers to be able to taste and explore the flavors of the coffee beans in Vietnam. Nguyen does not add extra flavors or use fancy machinery, instead focusing on maintaining the integrity and pure flavor of the beans.

Mount Lai

Mount Lai is a brand that focuses on modern techniques based on ancient rituals in China to achieve glowing and soft skin. They collaborate with Chinese medicine practitioners to bring the most authentic products to the table that have herbs that are beneficial to the skin. Mount Lai sells products such as jade rollers, herbal balms, and facial lifting toys. All of their products are designed to heal the skin from the inside and made from non-toxic ingredients such as goji berries and green tea extract.

Chunks

Chunks sells high-quality and unique hair clips and sunglasses. With bold colors and designs, these styles are impossible to find anywhere else. Chunks was founded to create accessories that were made from plant-based materials instead of plastic — the founder says her goal is to overall reduce the amount of plastic being used in the world and that all of the excess materials are used to make extra hair clips that are included as freebies. The founder also has the goal to stop the stereotype that surrounds the “Made in China” label. Chunks proves that not all manufacturing in China fits what the world thinks about China’s production.

Diaspora Co.

Diaspora Co. partners with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to provide spices that are farmed sustainably to consumers. They sell authentic spices, such as chilies, turmeric, and saffron. Diaspora Co. allows U.S consumers to reach out and get authentic spices while supporting farm workers more than they would be able to through fast businesses.

I hope you enjoyed this list of Asian-owned small businesses and will consider supporting some of them in the future!
