Andromeda.

Chained between the stars.

Who has put you there? One you ought to trust?

Whose foolishness,

Brashness,

Whose hunger for power?

Dear Andromeda, on who can blame be placed?

And why you? You of all women, you of all constellations above our tiny heads.

What within your life has brought you here? Where does your story start?

Within your eyes, I see all.

I see all I had needed to see

Within your eyes and yours alone, sweet Andromeda.

When was it that you knew your life was on the line;

when did you learn you could not trust them?

Those who had promised company and apathy…

Those who had promised to care.

When did you learn that the scales had been tipped –

that you were the gift, but not the giver.

Like a pacifier thrown to a screaming child.

It all depends on you, Andromeda.

You carry our hopes, and your sacrifice will live on.

But not you –

You will not see the sun in the sky, nor the grass beneath your feet.

The choice will never be yours, my love.

The stars are your home, but not yours to see.

My poor Andromeda, I wish you knew. I wish you had known that they lie

Those faces surrounding your bed.

Their chains are weak – you were the strong one.

Though they may protest, dear Andromeda,

You and your monster will both be free.
