Name: Andrea Raby
Year: Senior
Major: Journalism with specializations in design and documentary studies
What extracurricular activities are you involved in? Most of my time is taken up by The Media Sandbox Street Team
What exactly is the Media Sandbox Street Team? The Media Sandbox itself is a curriculum and a community in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. The Sandbox emphasizes going beyond your classwork and collaborating with other majors and organizations to produce creative content. Our motto is “critical thinking in a creative world.” The Street Team is basically the face of the Sandbox on a national level.
How did you become involved? I applied last year when it was a new student group, and I’ve been part of it as its evolved into sort of a student agency
What is your role? I’m technically the group’s producer, so I lead everything and coordinate events
What does the Street Team have planned this year? This year we are planning a spring break trip that will help a non-profit organization called The Disabled Travler. It’s a website that aims to show how national parks are handicap accessible, so we’re planning to go to a national park on the west coast and documenting it.
Dream job: Producing documentaries, either independently or for someplace awesome like HBO
Life’s passion: Telling stories. No matter what venue, the thing that moves me the most is a compelling story
Fun fact: I’ve wanted a teacup pig since I was seven. I’ll get one someday.
