All Pumpkin Everything: Do’s and Don’ts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Fall is officially here, and that can only mean one thing, ladies: pumpkin.

The pumpkin obsession started with every girl’s favorite fall essential: the pumpkin spice latte. However, pumpkin has been brought to a whole new level.

The amount of fall-themed foods and products on the shelves in October and November is sky high, but is it really a good idea for everything to be “going pumpkin?” Here are some products you should try and others you should probably stay far away from.

5 Do’s

1. Thomas’ Pumpkin Spice Bagels

A mild pumpkin flavor mixed with a hint of cinnamon makes for a perfect breakfast bagel. Also great toasted with plain cream cheese!

2. Pumpkin Spice Oreos

Maple frosting between two vanilla cookies is the perfect combination for fall. Don’t forget to dip in milk!

3. Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Lotion

Is there anything from B&BW that isn’t fabulous? For extreme pumpkin lovers, this lotion will keep your hands moisturized and smelling great for hours.

4. Coffee-Mate Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer

Pour a few drops of this magical liquid into your cup-of-joe in the morning for a great Starbucks substitute. It’s basically fall in a cup, so be prepared for multiple servings and to be hyped-up on caffeine.

5. Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts

If you love classic pumpkin pie, the filling inside these famous tarts tastes exactly like it. For breakfast or just a snack on-the-go, these are a great fall treat.

5 Don’ts

1. Oikos Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt

A little too sweet, this yogurt tastes of nutmeg and even a hint of banana. It’s extremely thick. The Chobani equivalent is much better, if you’re still looking for that pumpkin flavor in your yogurt.

2. Pumpkin Pie Pinnacle

This vodka is very cheap at only $15 for a fifth, and it sure tastes like it. Maybe good once or twice with the right mixer, but it’s a flavor that is easy to get sick of quickly.

3. Ashland Pumpkin Spice Candle

This scent sounds like it would be the perfect aroma for your living room during these chilly autumn months, but don’t do it. The scent is much too overwhelming to the point where you may need to crack a window if you want to survive. There is such a thing as too much pumpkin spice, people.

4. Pumpkin Spice Twinkies

These are just about as good as they sound. They are way too chewy, and the supposed pumpkin-flavored filing does not taste at all like pumpkin spice.

5. Pumpkin Spice Pringles

I think this one speaks for itself.
