What made you choose Michigan State?
Kapur: Michigan State offers so many resources that are underrated but almost necessary for a pre-medical student — like research, student organizations and more. Research is an integral component of my academic career currently, and the lab that I’m working at is working on a grant to secure funding. I’m excited to continue working on making scientific discoveries and learning through coursework.
What do you plan on doing post-undergrad?
I want to become a doctor. OB/GYN is probably what I want to do most, but I don’t know enough about other specialties to make a final decision already. Seeing my parents both being physicians has impacted me a lot. I realized early on that I wanted to be a doctor, but independent of my parents. There’s also nothing else that I wanted to do with my life. I’m so passionate about what I do, and I think that’s my biggest motivator — at the end of the day, I’ll be doing what I love.
Wow, you’re so focused and determined! How do you keep that up when you have so much going on?
I definitely get overwhelmed all the time, not only because I have a lot on my plate, but also because there’s more that I want to do that I don’t always have time for. I am very meticulous and organized with my planning, so that’s always helpful. I guess one of the biggest ways that I can keep myself motivated is to tell myself that I am trying my best, and it’ll pay off when I achieve my goals in the end.
What do you do to relieve stress?
I journal a lot, especially if I’ve had a stressful day. It always helps to get my thoughts out of my head so I don’t have to dwell on them too much. I also love Netflix, like anyone else, and Grey’s Anatomy is probably one of my favorite shows!
