My Realistic 2023 New Year Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

While this is definitely not the first year I have come up with a list of  personal resolutions, this is the first year where I have actually made an attainable list. A list that I can actually achieve. Every January I expect to suddenly change in the new year, but in 2023, my goals on this list will be reached…(hopefully).

  1. Drink More Water

Let’s start simple. Instead of saying that I will drink a gallon of water each day, I am planning on simply drinking more water. Even if it is just an extra glass, baby steps will help me slowly reach an attainable goal.

  1. Get Outside More

Whether it’s a three mile walk, or two minutes outside my door, I hope to actively make the choice to take the time to spend some more time outside this year. The sunlight and fresh air are definitely two things that I could have used more of in 2022.

  1. No Social Media Before Bed (Especially TikTok)

I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve said I was “going to bed,” but actually spent two hours scrolling on TikTok by accident. All socials would be nice to avoid before bed, but I would like to start by eliminating TikTok since that is the one that keeps me up the most.

  1. Move More

I am not saying I need to workout everyday, but I plan on making decisions that lead me to more movement. For example, instead of using an elevator I will take the stairs, or maybe walk to the store instead of driving some days.

  1. Eat Balanced

Every year I always say that I am going to eat healthy, or do some elaborate diet, and they almost never stick. This year, I simply just want to eat balanced. That means I will have a healthy diet that includes ALL foods. I hope that this mindset helps to heal my relationship with food and dieting culture.

  1. Make More Plans

I hate to admit it, but I am not good at making plans. I usually wait for someone else to take initiative for a night out or a get-together. Starting now, I’m going to try to take the lead and make more plans with friends and family.

  1. Make My Bed Every Day

Nothing is as satisfying as coming home to a nicely made bed at night. I plan on making my bed every morning so that I can live this joyful every evening.

  1. Learn More About Fashion

I love elaborate outfits on other people. However when it comes to myself, I find that most days I wear leggings and a sweatshirt. So, I’m planning on expanding my style by trying new and exciting looks.

  1. Make Coffee At Home

I have a Nespresso machine and Keurig, yet I still buy coffee from Starbucks almost daily. This year, I plan on mastering my at-home coffee recipe so I can save money and time.

  1. Slow Down

With a fast paced life, it can be so hard to take time to slow down and just breathe. I hope to make 2023 memorable by taking time to notice everything around me so that I have memories to last a lifetime. Hopefully this list gave you some inspiration to make your own achievable resolutions for 2023.

Happy New Year! :)
