So it’s no secret that this is a crazy time for the entire world. Most colleges are switching to online classes, everyone has to leave their campuses and pretty much everyone’s lives have been turned upside down.

Other than the disappointment of having to put your school social life on hold, staying inside is being heavily encouraged due to safety reasons. I was dreading this change: Going from living on campus to being with my family pretty much 24/7. However, this doesn’t have to ruin your life if you don’t let it.

Think of all of this alone time as an opportunity to be a better you. If you need a little encouragement and ideas on how to get this new stage in life started; I’m here to help.

What’s important right now is to keep yourself healthy both mentally and physically.

Here’s a list of the best ways to stay healthy while indoors:

  1. You should work out for at least 20 minutes a day. The internet has a plethora of exercise routines that can be done in your house.
    1. Yoga and meditation are also great ways to balance your mental health.
  2. Be aware of your diet… with all of the stress, it’s easy to lose track of how much or what you’re eating. Balance your diet with how much exercise you’re fitting in your day. Remember to try and lessen your sugar intake and drink plenty of water.
  3. Other than your online school, exercise your mind too.
    • Scrabble, crosswords, puzzles and reading are great ways to keep your mind sharp
  4. Use this time wisely by either picking up an old hobby or starting a new one.
  5. Don’t forget to relax too- you don’t want to stress yourself out. Things will be okay.
    • Take a bath
    • Keep in contact with friends through FaceTime
    • Stay informed but don’t obsess
    • Don’t be afraid of taking a social media break if you feel it’s necessary

These are stressful times for all of us, but you don’t have to make it harder on yourself. Take a deep breath, this will blow over, put yourself first and stay safe.
