How Healthy Habits Affected my Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

Healthy habits are an important aspect of life. Trying to create them and making them stay is among the hardest parts, though. They do say it takes 90 days to create a good habit. This summer I became one of the most habits based, routine person ever!! I will say, though, it was the best thing I did for myself. Here’s some of the best habits I acquired this summer that I suggest you try too. It changes your life more than just being healthy.

 Morning routine

This one is HUGE! I spent the majority of my summer working, just like any other college student really does. I was fortunate enough, I did not have to go into work in the mornings until 10am, though. With that, I started up my own morning routine to give me an extra boost to the day. My mornings start around 6-6:15am and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I get up and I go workout. This gets the blood going and sets a great tone for the rest of your day. After my workout, I shower and while getting ready I listen to an inspirational podcast. This gives you a little alone time and time to reflect before your day really gets going. I highly suggest starting your day getting your body moving, you will find you have so much more energy and of course, it’s very healthy for you to do.

Water, water, water

I made it a point to drink lots of water throughout the day. I found that drinking a lot of water I did not need as much caffeine to get through the day. This was monumental because I have been pretty caffeine dependent since the beginning of high school. So, when I started seeing my energy change from drinking lots of water I was shook!! Drinking water not only is healthy and something everyone has to do, but my skin has never been so clear, and I don’t need as much caffeine. Although, still love you coffeeeee!

Personal development books

Okay, now this one may not be for everyone, but personal development books are the BEST! I spent much of my summer reading lots of Rachel Hollis and a couple other personal development books. These books make you really dive deep into your own mind and get you thinking. I HIGHLY suggest Rachel Hollis books. Reading her books made me feel like her best friend even though I have never even met her! PD books are truly eye opening and I think are good for the soul and a little self-reflection time.

The foods you eat

This summer I really dove into meal prepping. This isn’t something I really have been into nor have really enjoyed myself. Mainly because I don’t like to make food because it takes time and you need to find recipes you like and blah, blah, blah. BUT this summer I meal prepped the entire summer! I found so many good recipes from Pinterest I have fallen in love with. Plus, it never even took me more than 45 min to make these meals. These meals would set me for the week ahead and I always knew coming home from work, I had a home cooked meal all ready for me to just warm it up. Meal prepping still gives you the flexibility of having cheat days and going out to eat with friends or family. I found a huge love for shrimp and different ways to cook it and then pairing it with quinoa. Not to mention you save SO much money meal prepping. These meals probably cost me $10-$12 per the 4 meals it would make. SCORE!

Last BUT not least = Set goals

Dang, this one really hits me. This summer I set myself many goals. Some bigger than others, but hey who cares a goal is a goal! I spent a lot of my time hustling in silence and letting my success be the noise. A lot of these goals I haven’t even told many people about besides the people closest to me. Going into this summer, I felt I had a lot on my plate. I knew I wanted to get back into shape as I had let myself go a little and wasn’t necessarily happy where I sat body image wise, I also was working two jobs, taking two summer online courses and on top of that taking my real estate courses. I almost feel as if I don’t give myself enough credit because I FREAKING CRUSHED these goals I set for myself. I took it all step by step and day by day.

I finished both summer courses in good standing. I ended up losing 10 pounds which I’m pumped about. I ran two 5Ks and recently have just signed up for another 5K AND for a HALF MARATHON y’all! I passed all my real estate courses and my State and National tests on the first try which I had studied my booty off for. With that said, your girl is now a licensed real estate agent in the state of MN and plan to work as a Licensed Assistant for my awesome boss. Can’t wait to learn more about this industry and watch myself grow even more! I also am a Co-President of this amazing chapter and a leader in another club here at school. AND I’m officially a senior in college!

I set these goals and started to truly believe I could achieve them and BE successful at it. It all starts in your head. Once you start believing in yourself, you will crush these goals you make for yourself. I’m pretty darn fired up after coming back from this summer and I am SO ready to crush this last year of school and smash these next goals I have for myself.

I’m telling you all from first-hand experience, healthy habits create a healthy life and you’ll start to see your life change in front of you. You’ll be happy, healthy and GLOWING!
