Five Essential Skin Care Products You Need to Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

Ugh, breakouts are seriously the worst. For me, they come at the most inconvenient times and I struggle to hide them, even with the best coverage foundation in my makeup bag. Lately, I’ve become so fed up with acne that I started taking the money I invested into makeup and putting it towards a greater cause – my skin! Taking care of your skin can seem like an added chore that you just don’t have time for, but I’ve found 5 skincare products that are worth the hassle and your skin will thank you for it.

1. Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray

I could preach about this product for days; in fact, I knew I loved the product before even purchasing it (crazy!). Let’s just take a moment to talk about how affordable it is for such a high-end and raved about skincare company. I purchased my bottle off of Amazon for $12, and it will easily last me a couple months. This product completely rejuvenates my skin at any point in the day. It works as a morning hydrating mist, makeup setting spray and it also works on dry hair to tame frizz. It’s become my holy grail skincare product, and it could be yours too!

2. Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer

Priming your skin before applying any type of makeup is an essential step to your routine that often gets overlooked. I never took this step in my high school years and it clearly showed. If you have large pores like me or a relatively oily T-zone, this product works to fill in and minimize their appearance, which prevents makeup from seeping into your pores and resulting in more acne. I swear by this drugstore product and have noticed great results.

3. Cetaphil Skin Cleanser

There’s definitely some sort of magic in this product, but I can’t pinpoint what. It’s so, so important to thoroughly wash your face in the morning and at night because you never know what kind of bacteria is sitting on your face. I started using this product a few months ago and saw immediate results! This cleanser is known for its gentleness and non-drying formula on sensitive skin, which is a huge plus. It’s another great, affordable drugstore product.

4. Garnier Skin Active Wake-Up Gel Moisturizer

I may go overboard on the moisturizer in my routine, but you can honestly never have enough. With my skin finally clearing up, I really love to lay off the full coverage makeup and go for that natural no-makeup look. This gel leaves my skin looking 100% more youthful and gives that “dewy” appearance that a lot of beauty gurus are loving right now. This product does exactly what you’d think and “wake-up” your skin, which is perfect for college students like me who have their noses in their books all night long.

5. Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Toner

For those of you with acne, most of the time, cleansing your skin with a facial wash is simply just not enough. I encourage going that extra mile and reaching for a toner to use once a day. This Clean and Clear toner is a product that you can actually feel working deep into your skin after applying and shows immediate results on a facial cotton pad. It takes off excess makeup you might have missed, dirt and bacteria laying on your skin. I don’t know about you, but there’s something so satisfying about catching all the gunk that would’ve soaked into your skin throughout the night.

It’s important to be comfortable in your skin and stepping up my skincare game has lead me to do just that. By taking these extra steps, I’ve been able to cut my makeup routine in half and have taken on the day completely bare faced. Your natural appearance is a work of art, so take care of it!
