The Importance Of Relationships

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

Some relationships are the best things that have ever happened to you. Some are the worst and you wish you could trace back the time and never have even met the person. But one thing is for sure: we live for relationships. Now listen, I’m not just discussing your average bae type of relationship, I’m talking about it all: the friendships, the family, the enemies, the acquaintances, the “best” friends, etc. I mean think about it, have you ever gone a full day without having some sort of human interaction? Do you think we would be sane if we were kept locked up from people? Clearly not, I mean prison is a punishment after all!

Relationships tend to shape who we are, how we see the world, and what we may become. Sure self-growth is a thing, but you know darn well that the people in your life have so much influence on you whether you want to admit it or not. Whether it’s your unsupportive family giving you the motivation to prove them wrong, or your friends showing you things in the world you might never have been exposed to, or whether it’s a bad break-up that improved your love of self, it all derived from one simple thing: a relationship. We sometimes don’t want to admit that other people have indeed had something to do with who we are today, but you should go on and thank your relationships because without them you would probably be nothing.

I think it’s important to bring light to this because I feel like relationships, in general, have had a bad reputation recently and don’t get the respect they deserve! Honestly, relationships have so much to offer and I genuinely think it is one of the biggest reasons we live (aside from being bad ass every day, you know). But, for now just think of how much each relationship means to you, how you treat that relationship, and possibly how you can better your life from it. Even if it means cutting that relationship out of your life completely or giving it a lot more attention, care, and love.
