Is the grass greener?

Small, humble beginnings are truly what you make of them. There is a very clear path for some, whereas others may see limits. When a cloud of the unknown looms, there are only so many ways to be swept. Either settle in, make something of yourself or leave. You decide. The choice is yours — it’s your life after all.

Will the grass be greener? Or should I just watch the grass die right under my feet? I was bound to this uncertainty. On one hand, I had my safety net, my town and the community that I’ve been surrounded by my entire life. This net that I was once so eager to jump out of now seems…easier. But I realized uncertainty may not be a blight on my life but rather an opportunity. So, I am deciding to jump.

Figuring it out

No pressure, just find what you are going to be living for. What sets fire to your spirit? What aspirations have driven you throughout high school and have led you to the first fall semester at college? The summer goes by exponentially fast and you’re already moving into your college town; you’re ready — or at least you think you are.

Change is Necessary

I am not the same. I am forever indebted to my first year away from home. My relationships have changed along with my perspective of what I thought life meant to me. I think I found a piece of myself that had never grazed my soul, a part of me that I’m still getting to know.

It’s uncomfortable when the externalities of the unknown grow within you. The person you’ve known your whole life is evolving, now making you question whether or not you really know yourself. You start to wonder whether or not your small town gave you boundaries or if it was your lack of self-reflection. It’s easy to put blame on what surrounds you, especially when you’ve put so much trust into what you believe the future has held for you.

being comfortable in the uncomfortable

You realize that as you curate your routine, find your people and begin to accomplish your goals, you find yourself constantly coming in and out of waves of motivation. Life ebbs and flows; that’s natural. It’s just important that you know how to climb back out of those dark places. Your life is completely and utterly unique, ephemeral and complete no matter what challenges you face.

College can give you perspective, but you have to be willing to change no matter how uncomfortable it may be.
