(Fall)ing for this Television Lineup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mercer chapter.

Fall semester work is already filling out our weekly planners, so we all can look forward to much needed study breaks. After looking at the lineup of shows, I think ABC’s #TGIT should be joined by a #TGIS (Thank God It’s Sunday)! Thursday nights bring back the suspense and thrill of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder.

Grey’s Anatomy starts the night off at 8 p.m. ET on September 24, 2015 with season 12. This medical drama delves into the lives of the medical interns and associates working their way up to being doctors, while trying to maintain their personal relationships (which by the looks of it, is extremely hard!)

After learning about all the scandals of the medical field, you can become engrossed in the politics of Scandal at 9 p.m. for season 5. Kerry Washington plays a brilliant owner of a crisis management firm where each character has their own crisis that they can’t seem to manage thanks to their individual histories that are filled with secrets.

Finishing off your roller coaster of feelings for the night at 10 p.m. is How to Get Away With Murder. Tony-nominated, Oscar-winning Viola Davis becomes your inspiration with her intelligence and magnetic personality as she teaches a defense course that brings out secrets and truths that will have hair rising on your arms.

Just when you think you have to wait another week for more distractions from schoolwork, Sunday nights introduce two new, addicting dramas: Blood & Oil (bonus: the star is Chace Crawford!) and Quantico right after Once Upon A Time.

Once Upon a Time (OUAT) returns at 8 p.m. on September 27, 2015 with more fairytale and modern life mix that makes it hard to distinguish between real and not real, as well as good and evil.

Following OUAT at 9 p.m. comes Blood & Oil, the new drama that does exactly what the title says. Blood, money, and relationships are all thrown into the battle as Chace Crawford and Rebecca Rittenhouse partner with Don Johnson to make their living off of the largest oil discovery in American history.

Now that you feel like chasing (no pun intended) after oil for money, why not go through some FBI training? At 10 p.m., Quantico rounds up a group of FBI trainees that may give Chace Crawford a run for his money. After a disastrous event occurs, all of them are put into question in this suspenseful, action-packed, mystery.

ABC may have a heart-pounding, jaw-dropping list of shows sure to be filled with juicy plots, but we can’t forget about the season premieres of the spine-chilling American Horror Story: Hotel, the emotion-packed story of The Walking Dead, and the action-filled Heroes. Not to mention, if you need your musical fix, Empire has you covered.

If you haven’t completely forgotten about your homework from any of the other shows listed before, American Horror Story: Hotel may just haunt you with its demonic creatures featured on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

Haven’t gotten enough of creepy looking creatures? The Walking Dead premiere kicks off at 10:30 p.m. on October 11, 2015, which, although full of zombies, has a storyline following main character, Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln. The storyline tugs at anyone’s heart strings as he strives to survive the zombie apocalypse, yet maintain his relationships.

After seeing a desolate world in need of help and hope, the exciting Heroes reboot returns on September 24 at 8 p.m. to tell the stories of ordinary people who come upon superhuman powers that may help them save the world.

This amazing lineup of television series couldn’t be complete without a music-based show like Empire! On September 23, 2015 at 9 p.m., listen to the hip hop music of the Empire Entertainment company accompanying the drama of control over the company by the members of the family who founded it.

Through all of the drama, emotional rides, creepy sights, and action, it sounds like we will have plenty of entertainment for our study breaks!

What shows are you most looking forward to this Fall? We’d love to hear!
