Mid-semester Stress as Told by AHS Hotel

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marywood chapter.

Real life horror story: the midsemester workload. We survived midterms, but the worst has yet to come. The road to finals has begun and the most dreaded point in the semester has arrivied. Every professor seems to assign the bulkiest projects at the same time – all due within days of each other, and that’s if you’re lucky. The next two weeks before Thanksgiving break are filled with group projects, essays and research papers, presentations, readings, and any other tedious assignments they may have up their evil, yet perfectly ironed, sleeves. Here’s why American Horror Story Hotel is comparable to our midsemester breakdowns:

1. We don’t have time to eat real food.

We don’t have time to cook a healthy meal. McDonald’s and Sheetz are so cheap and easy, you begin to eat deep-fried grease for every meal of the day.

2. Your completed assignments don’t even make sense.

You have so much work due at the same time, that you can’t possibly put your best effort into each assignment.

3. The bar crosses your mind on an hourly basis.

Four glasses of wine will make this research paper go away, right?

4. You start to resent your professors.

You expect me to write a five-page paper, read ten chapters, prepare a presentation, and work 8 hours within the next two days?

5. You stop caring about your personal appearance.

Unbrushed hair? Check. Uneven eyeliner? Check. Coffee-stained sweatshirt? Check.

6. The little devil on your shoulder convinces you that procrastination is the answer.

You start to look for any excuse NOT to study or do your homework.

It may seem like this nightmare will never end, but don’t give up: the mountains of mashed potatoes and pumpkin pies are closer than they seem.
