Nanushka: One of Fashion Week’s Sustainable Brands

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Fashion-forward and full of fierce new trends, Fashion Week was a week to remember.  Nanushka’s spring 2021 ready-to-wear collection was showcased at New York Fashion Week. The collection was 59% fully sustainable — marking the most sustainable collection the brand has been able to achieve, according to an interview with Vogue.

After quarantining in the Hungarian countryside, Nanushka’s designer, Sandra Sandor, felt reconnected with the natural world — bringing inspiration into the brand’s latest collection for fashion week. Sandor’s renewed connection with nature helped her redefine the concept of spring from “a pause, a moment of contemplation,” towards engagement with the world.

Celebrities like Hailey Bieber and Kim Kardashian have been spotted flaunting the brand’s simplistic yet bohemian style. Self-described on their website as “the Modern Bohemian,” Nanushka is marked by their free-spirited and progressive style. They work to incorporate elements of their vision into their collections, believing that we must cherish and protect the planet and incorporating that philosophy into their collections.

The Hungarian brand’s vision towards a sustainable future has been a major factor in their past collections and in their most recent one, according to their story. Nanushka’s business is built on three pillars of craftsmanship, experimentation, and progressivism and has been striving to evolve their sustainable brand.

The brand is well known for its efforts towards sustainability — and its latest collection is no exception.  It includes upcycled patchwork pieces, vegan leather, as well as some pieces made of deadstock yarn. Marked by floral pants and shorts for men and a variety of looks for women —which moved towards a more shapely look rather than the popular oversized look — the latest collection graced fashion week embracing an earthy color palette and their easy yet slightly feminine look that the brand has incorporated into their style.

Although the brand is on the expensive end and a luxury brand their clothing can be found on their website and at Nordstrom.
