For the first time in my life, I really am on my own. Ever since I can remember, my grandma was there to nurse me back to health when I was under the weather. I can’t fly home to Minnesota for a weekend of recovery. Similarly, in a clip from Grownish in which a pair of college freshman twins get sick for the first time in college. Apparently, this is a common issue that beginning adults face. With my mono diagnosis, I’ve had to learn to take care of myself the past few weeks.

1. Doordash is your new best friend

The doctor ordered soup! Sadly, microwavable Campbells gets sickening after about four days. I’ve been ordering soup from some local Asian places and well as noodles and company. Chicken noodles made with love, really is better.

3. White tea

My grandma sent me this amazing blend from a Minnesota tea shop called Sencha Tea Bar. It’s a white tea called Snow White, it contains apple, hibiscus and mango. The white tea is super light on the throat, so it’s great for when you’re not feeling well.

4. Avoid going out and exercising

Usually, a night out and dance classes are what brings my mood up. But with mono, you can’t have alcohol or it will damage your liver. In addition to the liver damage, your spleen is enlarged with this virus, so when you exercise it is susceptible to rupture. With this illness, rest and hydration really is needed for recovery.

5. Keep up with cleaning

I let my room get really messy and I wasn’t doing my facial routine, so I kind of ended up with a dirty room and acne filled face. It’s super hard to stay on top of everything when you get headaches walking, but you will be grateful later when you are feeling better and want to have your life together.
