Looking for new music to listen to while studying for exams or travelling back home for the holidays? Look no further! Here are some young and talented female artists with incredible music. These women also write almost all their songs, and they’e making their mark on the music industry early. If you are in need of some new music, check out these gifted musicians.

1. Charlotte Lawrence

A 20-year-old singer-songwriter born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Charlotte Lawrence has a large following on Instagram and has released quite a few singles and EPs. She is known for her high, whimsical voice and heartbreaking songs. Lawrence often posts videos on her Instagram featuring her singing some of her own songs and covering popular artists. One of her more popular songs is her duet with JP Saxe, “The Few Things.” This is a tragically beautiful love song that showcases Lawrence’s range, including high notes that would be difficult for anyone else to hit.

2. Lizzy McAlpine

Lizzy McAlpine is a 20-year-old jazz/pop singer-songwriter originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. McAlpine has singles available on Spotify and Apple Music as well as a few unreleased songs on her Instagram and Soundcloud. She released her first shorter album in 2018 and released another, Give Me A Minute, in August. The alternative album includes 13 songs full of heartbreak, love, loss and sweetness. McAlpine’s music has a song for almost every mood and her melodious voice makes you feel every word.

3. Gracie Abrams

Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams is also known as the 21-year-old daughter of famous director/producer J.J. Abrams. Abrams released five singles and her first album in July. Her music is becoming increasingly popular, and she has since performed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in August and Jimmy Kimmel Live! in October. Abrams’ album Minor highlights seven pop songs that Apple Music calls “achingly beautiful ballads.” Her strong, distinct and harmonious voice makes you sit on the edge of your seat awaiting the next lyric.

4. Olivia Rodrigo

The 17-year-old singer-songwriter’s name might sound familiar if you have watched the new hit-series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. This young star plays one of the main characters, Nini Salazar-Roberts. Her beautiful voice can stand alone to represent her immense talent, but her songwriting skills are almost more impressive. She had the opportunity to write one of the most popular songs from the show, “All I Want,” and co-wrote another song with her co-star Joshua Bassett, “Just for a Moment.” Outside of the TV show, Rodrigo has a plethora of original songs on her Instagram that fans are begging her to release. Her songs include themes of self-comparison and love stories and flaunt her storytelling capabilities.

5. Audrey Hobert

Audrey Hobert is a savvy singer-songwriter and freshman at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. While Hobert does not have any officially released music, her Instagram account displays her folklike and delicate voice. Singing might be a newer forte for Hobert, as many friends in the comments of her Instagram were shocked when she started posting videos of herself singing. Hobert’s dreamy and angelic voice makes you feel like you are in a field of flowers and about to fall asleep. Her fans are anxious for more videos and hopefully singles in the future.
