How to Have a Galentine’s Day in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUM chapter.

February is the season full of LOVE! Why not share it with your besties and do some cute activities?! Galentine’s Day, created by Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation, is a celebration of female friendships on the day before Valentine’s Day. Whether you live in a dorm or an apartment this fun night can be had anywhere. You could make the night more simple and relaxed or add decorations, balloons, and charcuterie boards! Have one friend over or invite five! You can use this list to create your to-do list and get some ideas on what to do,

  1. Pink & Red Attire

You could make your night a gala or a PJ party…but regardless, pink and red is a must. Order matching heart PJ sets off Amazon to twin with your girls, or find a light pink sweater in your closet and pair it with some light washed jeans. The cute outfits also make for a great Instagram picture!

  1. Drinks

No need for anything fancy, just some Sprite in a champagne flute with some pink food coloring. Or, get some pink and heart designed glasses and your guests can have the drink of their choice. TikTok has some great ideas for how to make some pretty mocktail Valentine’s drinks that everyone is sure to love!

  1. Activities/Crafts

Having something planned ahead for your group will be sure to elevate the night and make it more than just a usual hangout. Bake some brownies with Valentine’s M&Ms, do a spa night with face masks and mani pedis or play some board/card games. Crafts could include writing love letters, friendship bracelet making or canvas painting. The possibilities are endless!

  1. Movie

Of course, being in the season of love, you can pick any one of the billion romance movies that exist. Movies like Valentine’s Day, 500 Days of Summer, Barbie (for the pink aesthetic), How to Lose a Guy in 10 days, The Notebook, and Sleepless in Seattle are perfect options. Not sure what you’re in the mood for? Just search up Valentine’s Day movies on Google and pick your favorite!

  1. Food

Simply putting out some cookies or a bowl of red candy is perfect for your guests. A new trend has been making mini homemade pizzas in the shape of a heart which could be an activity done by everyone! Store bought or homemade chocolate covered strawberries and pink frosted iced sugar cookies are also a February staple.

Enjoy your Galentine’s Day with your besties!

Talia Navarro is a freshman at Loyola University of Maryland. She was born and raised in New Jersey. She attended Middletown High School South, the place where she found her interest in studying law. She took Business Ethics, Creative Writing, and Effective Oral Communication electives. At the end of her senior year in high school, she won three different awards for submitting writing entries. The pieces included topics of being a child of a first responder, growing up as a dancer, and her dream of becoming a lawyer. Her journaling fascination was sparked by her Dad at a young age. If she ever had a school paper, she would report straight to him. They would sit in the dining room for hours and work through her corrections and how to improve her skills. Whether it is a simplistic story about rescuing her dog or writing about the causes of World War II, he was able to excel. She still continues to aspire to have her father’s ability and reach his level of composing mastery. In her personal life, she has incorporated journaling into her everyday routine, to reflect on her gratitude and make affirmations to herself. She enjoys helping her friends and classmates edit their school papers. She does not have a professional background just yet, however, she hopes to build it soon! She loves to read books in her free time. Her favorite genres are fiction and romance, but recently she has found interest in thrillers. She enjoys exercising and staying active, whether that includes going for a walk outdoors or going to an instructed class. A guilty pleasure of Talia's is shopping. If you ever offer a shopping trip, just know her answer is yes! She also has a passion for hair and makeup. She is always watching tutorials and testing various makeup techniques. She loves to try out new hairstyles and find the best hair care products on the market.
