Students of Loyola: a take on the very exciting, emotional, and raw Humans Of New York. I want to capture the students at Loyola in a way that has not been done before. I want people’s joy and struggles to be out there, without forcing anything too much.
Meet Violet Potter:
Violet is a LUC junior spending her 2019 spring semester studying in Lyon, France.
What pushed you to study abroad?
I have been studying French for about 2 years now, and I really wanted the chance to be immersed in it. With the program I’m in, there’s over 4 hours of french class each day. I find it beneficial that I am able to practice constantly and meet other people who are new to the language as well. I chose Lyon because, while it is a large city, it has a smaller town vibe. It’s really easy to see people you know in passing. It is an incredibly valuable experience to be in a place where you don’t speak the native language, and it has opened my eyes to how people new to the U.S. feel all the time.
Senior year is coming up soon. What is one thing you want to accomplish before you graduate?
Before I graduate, I want to socialize more with people in my classes. Being in France has reminded me how fleeting time can be, and you never know what kind of life the people around you live. It’s cool to be able to talk to someone with a completely different life than yours.
