3 New Years Resolution Goals to Set After Going Through a Breakup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Going through a breakup is hard, especially during the holidays when society claims that “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.” In fact, breakups make this time completely the opposite. However, during this rough patch, I have tried to focus on myself, appreciate my life and set positive goals for 2020. The goals I have set for myself relate to happiness and remind myself to focus on the bright side of life. After all, a new year requires a fresh start!

1. Reconnect with friends and loved ones

Whether this includes high school friends or new college friends my goal for the upcoming year is to lean on my friends and make up for missed time. I hope to distract myself by staying busy and exploring new places with them. Self-Care is essential during stressful times. It’s important to focus on your mental and physical health, so anytime my thoughts catch up to me and I’m starting to feel sad, my goal is to attend a fitness class, apply a relaxing face mask or watch a comedy show on Netflix. Being selfish is not the worst thing after all focusing on yourself and maintaining happiness can cure a broken heart!

3. Find a new hobby or interest

I love being a busy person so with some extra time on my hands now, I hope to find a new hobby or something that will spark my interest. To accomplish this goal I plan on keeping an open mind in hopes to find anything ranging from a new class that interests me, to a new job I want to apply for, or even something as simple as adding an activity to my daily routine. My loved ones have advised me to stay busy and distract yourself, and so far their advice is right!

The cliche “New Year, New Me” phrase will be my motto this year, in hopes that I accomplish these goals. I wish to inspire any other girls going through a breakup or any rough patch in their
