Fall Break is finally here, and with the next break over a month away, it is important to make this one count. Here are 10 ways to recharge, so making it through until Thanksgiving does not seem as daunting.Â
1. Get organized.
Set aside some time to clean up something that might have gotten lost in the crazy atmosphere of school. Organizing the clutter that has accumulated on your desk is a great way to relieve stress and reset for the week ahead.
2. Binge watch a new show on Netflix.
Shows that are new to Netflix in October include The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Saved by the Bell, and Jane the Virgin.
3. Do something creative.
Painting or crafting is a great way to get your mind off school. Browse sites like Pinterest, find something cute for your dorm, and take a few hours to spice up your walls.
4. Try a new restaurant.
Find a new spot you have never tried before to fuel up for the upcoming week, and maybe find a new favorite restaurant.
5. Start each morning with a moment of calm.
It does not have to be a long meditation session, just something to start your day fresh to help regain some motivation to get you to Thanksgiving. The Calm app on iTunes is great.
6. After Netflix, try to stay away from electronics.
Emails and social media can be a large source of stress. Turning off your phone for even a few hours can help you enjoy some time to yourself without those distractions, no matter how hard it is to power down.
7. Â Exercise.
Do not worry – nothing intense is required. A simple bike ride, jog, or yoga session will leave you relaxed and will help you let go of the stress from the previous week. If it was a particularly stressful week, kickboxing could be worth a shot.
8. Call your parents or friends.
In today’s world, many try to avoid talking on the phone at all costs. Taking the time to talk to a family member or friend can bring a new sense of motivation and even relaxation if you need a good venting session, so go ahead an dial.
9. Leave school stress behind.
Close your email, shut your planner, and take a day to not think about homework or tests at all. Spend a few hours over the rest of the long weekend doing small amounts of homework at a time. That way, you can avoid a stressful Sunday night and rough start to the week ahead.
10. Read a book.
Find something you like – funny, inspirational, nonfiction, whatever – and sit down and read. Reading something not required for school will take the stress of classes away, and refresh your mind.
