Getting a spring in my step

As the days get longer and the weather starts to seem more and more like day drinking in Hyde Park weather, it’s becoming ever so clear that spring is on its way. Spring is my favourite season, arguably because I just enjoy seeing all the flowers coming into bloom, but also because it is representative of change and moving forward towards brighter days (quite literally). There is nothing I love more than the idea of new beginnings and I feel spring offers me that opportunity to start fresh and kick old habits every year. So what am I most looking forward to this Spring?

  • Getting Outside

The first goal on my spring to-do list is to get some more time outside, all these hours tucked away in my room writing for my midterms, surprisingly, doesn’t do me much good! With the sun making more of an appearance every day, I am so looking forward to going on walks (especially sunny dog walks), sitting in Hyde Park all day with friends and even the simpler things like sitting outside at a café.

The brighter days fill me with so much joy and instantly put me in a happier mood so why would I not seize the opportunity to bask in the sunshine? Especially when the sun brings out my freckles too!

  • The Flowers

As I mentioned, I am a sucker for flowers, and you better believe the day I first saw the little blooms in Hyde Park has got to be one of my favourite days so far this year. I may be slightly dramatic here, but it was a very happy moment!

Seeing all the colour come back into the world after months of grey skies, rain and sludge (from the brief period in which we had snow), is such a refreshing change to see such vibrancy making its way back into our lives. Plus, daffodils are one of my favourite flowers so seeing those coming into blossom over the past few weeks has certainly made me smile.

  • Music

Hear me out on this, one of my favourite things about the arrival of spring is listening to music that just makes me feel summery! As odd as it sounds there are just certain songs out there that hit differently when the weather is getting warmer, and you are out just enjoying the sunshine.

I love rediscovering the songs and artists that soundtrack sunnier days because they make me feel that bit happier! If there is one thing I would recommend you do as we approach Spring, it would be to find the tunes that make you feel good and put them in a playlist to soundtrack your spring and summer.

  • A New Wardrobe

Well, not buying a whole new load of clothes, but swapping out winter outfits for summer ones! I love a chunky knit jumper as much as the next person but it does get a bit dull after some time, they serve as a constant reminder of the bleak weather and shorter days that are to be endured. I am very much looking forward to going home over the Easter break and swapping out my winter clothes for my summer clothes.

The sudden pop of colour in my wardrobe when this time of year rolls around just instantly boosts my mood and I find that waking up excited to wear a certain outfit you’ve planned or to wear a skirt you’ve been waiting to wear for when the warmer weather returns always add a positive boost to the day!

  • Spring Cleaning

Finishing on quite a cliché here but, nonetheless, I am still very much looking forward to it! I can’t wait to do a spring clean. I want to move forward this spring and I know that having a cleanout of old clothes, tidying my space and just getting more organised is going to help me do this. Writing this article, I am already in the midst of sorting out clothes I want to take to charity shops and I would strongly urge you all to do the same!

Or, if charity shops aren’t for you, why not sell some of your old clothes on sites such as Depop or Vinted – helping the planet and making some money off it too! If I want to move forward to a more positive future, decluttering my space will in turn help me declutter my mind so the first thing on my to-do list as we approach the Easter break, as boring as this makes me sound, is doing a massive spring clean.

These are just a few of the things I am looking forward to over Spring and no matter how you want to celebrate the welcoming of sunnier and brighter days, I hope you have a lovely time in doing so!
