Searching for a college to attend was definitely the most stressful part of my senior year of high school.  Choosing between staying close to home or going farther away, a big school or a small school, and trying to figure out how much I could really spend was so confusing and hard for me.  I knew that I wanted to study fashion, but there weren’t many options for me in my home state (Massachusetts) and going to New York City (every fashion students dream) was not very realistic.  With all of these factors I grew very resentful towards the whole college application process, but then I found Lasell College.

When searching online for colleges with fashion programs within Massachusetts I came across Lasell College.  I had never heard of the school before, but when I asked around many people mentioned how well known the fashion program was.  With notable alumni, like Sonjia Williams (a contestant on Fashion Runway), and professors with many years of industry experience, Lasell’s fashion department matched up to any fashion school that I had looked at in NYC.  I attended the school’s fashion show with my mom at the end of last year and was really blown away by the whole production.  The fashion program is so dominant at Lasell that it has its very own building, the Donahue Center for Creative and Applied Arts.  All of this cemented my interest in the fashion program and made all of the other factors of my decision much easier.

Academically Lasell really caught my eye, but the sense of community I feel on campus is what keeps me loving the school.   I love how I can walk around campus and almost always see someone I know.  I don’t feel swallowed up by the campus like one might feel on a large campus and I feel like an important member of the community rather than just one of thousands of students.  Within the community of Lasell College are dedicated professors that really do care about your success.  With a smaller school comes smaller class sizes, which I love!  I have been able to really get to know my professors and I feel like I have the best chance to do well because I have professors who know me personally and can help me one-on-one.

When I was looking at colleges I so badly wanted to be in the city, but I also wanted to have a real college campus.  Luckily, Lasell had the best of both worlds.  With two T stops within ten minutes from class I can get into the Boston within 45 minutes.  I love going into the city with my friends and being able to then come back to a college campus.  I am also only 35 minutes from home at Lasell which I have come to love.  I thought that by being so close to home I would constantly be going home, but I really haven’t.  It is so nice to be close to my hometown, because my mom can come visit for an hour or bring me things that I need and be home in no time.

With all that Lasell has to offer, I found it easy to imagine myself attending the school.  Although I was nervous about coming to school and didn’t know how everything would turn out, the community at Lasell has helped me to transition more smoothly than I think any school could have.
