This week is National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week!
Various offices and departments around Lasell are helping to spread the word about how alcohol can affect the lives of students.
The point of this week isn’t telling you not to drink, but instead it shows the effects of what happens when people don’t drink in a safe way and how they put themselves and other people at risk.
Think this is a bunch of lecture-y b.s.? Or that it doesn’t affect you? Well take a look at the following facts and see if any of them change your mind:
–696,000 are assaulted by another student who’s been drinking.
–97,000 are turned into survivors of sexual assault by perpetrators under the influence.
–599,000 are injured (unintentionally) while intoxicated.
–1,825 die from alcohol injuries that includes car crashes.
–100,000 report not being able to remember if they consented to sex while under the influence.
–25% have academic consequences because of drinking.
–19% fall into the category of having an alcoholic disorder.
-Almost five million drive under the influence of alcohol.
Some of those numbers are pretty terrifying, right? All of these facts are based on college age students, 18-24 year olds, by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. This isn’t just a bunch of concerned moms or ticked off professors trying to lecture you. These are facts that are very real.
So get involved and don’t forget to ask questions! There will be events all throughout the week, so go out there and get educated!
