Advice From a Second Semester Senior Part 2

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Welcome back to another Q&A session with our President Emalee! I am a Senior Fashion Merchandising and Management major and a communications minor. I asked our Her Campus Lasell Instagram followers to ask questions anonymously and now I am going to answer them!

Q: How Does One Start/ Run a Club?

A: This can vary from school to school, but at Lasell you need at least two students who want to join and a faculty member who would be willing to be an advisor. Then, you need to set up a meeting with the Office of Student Activities and they will help you make a constitution and set your club up for success! Lasell does have eighty-plus clubs make sure the club does not already exist!

Q: Tips for Online Classes?

Staring at a computer all day can be tiring, so I recommend taking a break when you can by either going outside for a walk, reading a paper book, or getting a snack. Also, blue light glasses have been a lifesaver! I have been getting fewer headaches and there are many inexpensive pairs on Amazon! It can be hard to focus, so try and change up your environment and put your phone on silent! If you really need to focus, put your phone on the other side of the room!

Q: Tips for Job/Internship Searching During COVID?

I had to do both, so first, my biggest tip is to use LinkedIn to your advantage with all its different features and for job searching. You can check out one of my other articles here for tips and tricks on LinkedIn. Other helpful websites were Chegg Internships, Glassdoor, and Indeed. Also, if there is a company you are specifically interested in check out their website! Make yourself stand out by creating a digital portfolio on Wix or WordPress. Make sure your digital portfolio and LinkedIn both are updated. Also, plan out your answers to frequently asked interview questions and make your answers unique to common questions like, “what is your greatest weakness.” My last tip is to get a solid list of references and seek advice about applications from mentors.

Q: How do You Make Time for Yourself?

Whether it is working out or having a self-care night. It is very important to make time for yourself. If you do not prioritize it, you will get burnt out. Make time in your busy schedule to block out time to have a self-care night at least once a week and make sure to prioritize your physical and mental health. Making time for your family and friends is super important as well. Watch your favorite show or take time to read a fun book, so you are not super stressed out all the time.

Q: How do You Survive a Class When You Either Do not Like the Class or the Professor?

This is a tough one because it can definitely be hard to focus on this class. First, I would say when you have an assignment to do for the class with a list of other assignments for other classes, get the work for that class done first. Even though you might want to procrastinate, getting it done when you have the most amount of mental energy will be easier. Saving assignments for a class you might enjoy for last will be easier. Other than that, still, try your best and if you honestly feel like the professor was not qualified to teach the class and was affecting your grade, you can always leave a review about them at the end of the semester.

Those were all the questions! Hope everyone has a great rest of the semester!
