Hannah Hobson: Co-Editor for Her Campus Lancaster

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

This week’s Campus Celebrity is the third year student, Hannah Hobson aged 20. Hannah is the co-editor of the Her Campus Lancaster chapter, so we decided to get an idea of what it is like to work for this company and what’s needed to become a co-editor.

Hello, Hannah, thank you for being this week’s Campus Celebrity! First things first: how did you become interested in Her Campus?

Since college, I have always had a keen interest with fashion journalism and at the beginning of my second year, I was told about the opportunity to write for Her Campus and I felt like this was a perfect opportunity to get the writing experience that I needed. From being part of the Her Campus Lancaster writing team for a year, I decided to go for the position to become the co-editor as this would give me more of an insight into the career that I want to pursue, as well as teaching me the managerial skills that are needed to maintain and develop our chapter.

Can you tell us a little bit about your role as the co-editor and what it involves?

As a co-editor, the main focus is ensuring that we have articles to fill all the required sections each week – whether these articles are on current issues in the press or for our weekly columns. We need to thoroughly go through each article and edit any bits that need changing before we publish them and then share them across the social media platforms. As this is pretty much a given, behind the scenes we are required to set article ideas, as well as the deadlines and to also take a managerial stance towards our team to make sure that we are guiding our chapter into becoming a successful and well known page.

How long have you been doing this for?

I have been a co-editor since the start of the academic year, so I’ve been doing it for about a month, but we shadowed the previous editors for the last term of the previous academic year.

What sort of content do you publish each week?

Luckily for us, we have a quite a big team behind us all wanting to write about different topics. So we have travel writers, fashion writers, beauty writers and then people who write upon current issues. Also, we have people reviewing the latest films, music and books for our cultural column. We literally have articles on anything you can think of.

What articles do you have planned for the next few weeks?

Of course it is Christmas around the corner, so we will have content taking on different angles of the festive season and the most talked about film, The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 is coming out next week, so there will definitely be a review on that.
