Everything You Need To Know About Grizedale Bar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

Grizedale Bar is one of the nine on-campus bars at Lancaster University, selling a range of food and drinks. The bar is open to everyone but is favoured by many of the students due to the campus location, reasonable pricing and vibrant atmosphere. I currently work part-time at the well-known cocktail bar, in which all of the staff are either students or former students.

1. They sell the BEST cocktails – and they’re affordable.

There are a range of cocktails sold at the consistent price of £6.95, from Gin Cocktails to Martinis, Prosecco to Long Island Iced Tea and Milkshakes to Rum Cocktails. You can sometimes ask for a cocktail that’s off the menu too!

2. Each day of the week is a different 2-for-1 cocktail offer

Sometimes people get confused about the cocktail offers. There is a selection of cocktails, which are on the 2-for-1 offer every day of the week permanently, including: White Russian, Blue Lagoon, Cosmopolitan, Sex on the Beach, WooWoo, Long Island Iced Tea and Lynchburg Lemonade. Then, depending on the day, there are different dayss for different cocktail menus. Monday is Gin night, Tuesday is Milkshake night, Wednesday is Rumshack, Thursday is Martini night, Friday is Prosecco night and Saturday is Sours night. On each of these days, that particular menu is on 2-for-1. However, you are able to purchase the cocktails on these menus on different days, just not on the 2-for-1 offer. You can also mix-and-match – for example, you can choose a Bellini cocktail on Prosecco night and choose a WooWoo off the standard menu, meaning it still only costs £6.95!

3. Pitchers are only £9.95

Grizedale sells pitcher jugs too, such as Blue Lagoon, WooWoo, Long Island Iced Tea and Sex on the Beach. They basically have 3x the alcohol with the mixer topping it up to a litre, only costing £9.95!

4. Also they sell the BEST nachos – a whole menu full

Grizedale used to just sell a few different types of nachos, but now there’s a whole menu full (including vegetarian options!) From BBQ to Classic and from Chilli to Greek!

5. A new menu favourite – Frenchos!

I had no idea what Frenchos were, but at Grizedale you can order a full or half camembert cheese, which comes with two or three pita bread triangles and a pot of cranberry sauce, finished with some rosemary. It’s the perfect snack (or hangover cure).

5. You can hire out part of the bar– for free

Not many people know this – but if you’re organising a party for a friend, want to host your own birthday party or you’re the social sec for your society – you can hire out part of the bar for free! The part you can hire out is usually the top half of the bar, where all of the sofas are, but these can be moved to the sides so that there is more room. To do this, make sure you book a few weeks in advance by contacting the manager, Emily Louise Hodson.

6. Grizedale sells mocktails

If you are steering clear of alcohol and don’t fancy the usual coke or lemonade, why not try Grizedale’s mocktails. The mocktail offer is 2 for £5 and they range from ‘Safe Sex on the beach’, ‘Elderflower breeze’, ‘Strawberry Surprise’ and ‘Ginger Punch’. These are not listed on the menu, but just request one from a member of staff and they’ll sort you out.

7. Everything sold is affordable on a student-budget

Fosters is £2.70. Strongbow dark fruits is £3. There is also a 3 for £5 offer on VKS, Carlsberg bottles, and vodka mixers. And don’t forget the 2-for-1 offer on cocktails.

Get yourself down to Grizedale for a drink to enjoy the music, play some pool or have a bite to eat! You’re missing out.
