A Friendly Reminder – It Is Going To Be Okay

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

As I sit here frustrated about trying to find something to write about, thinking about how many assignments I have to complete, getting messages from friends that had issues with class enrollment for next semester, and worried about how fast the end of the semester is approaching; the simplest statement relaxes me for just a few moments. Breathe, it is going to be okay.

This time of year is so particularly hard on students and educators, we had the rush of midterms a week or so ago, and now all of a sudden finals are only four weeks away. We are rushing assignments, projects, and curriculum. (I don’t even know how I still have a head on my shoulders after class, work, observing, show set up, and now homework?) Also with the seasonal change happening, everyone seems to be a little bluer. Add all this together and it is a recipe for disaster. But I am telling you, keep your head up, you are working hard for something so special.

Breathe. Go get your favorite comfortable food or beverage (mine is a Venti salted caramel mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks) and cuddle up with your favorite sweatshirt and blanket and take a moment to breathe. I know what works best for me when I am crazy overwhelmed (like right now), is to plan. My breathing moment is when I stop working on assignments, and instead of worrying, plan on how to achieve my goals. My goals for this weekend are to complete a research project, three different lesson plans, and a project for one of my studio classes; instead of worrying about the mass amount of work this is going to be, I am planning.

My whole life is based on the organization of my planner, when I have a solid plan I feel better. You have to figure out what works best for you on how to get a handle on this craziness we call a college education, but I promise taking a step back and taking one deep breath is step one. It will be okay, and you will find a way through this tough time, and you will only be stronger once it is over! Breathe, and remember your main goal (for most of us a degree)!
