How to Protect Your Hair During Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

The most stylish thing? Healthy hair. Follow these tips during spring break to keep your hair safe from the elements whether your soaking up the sun or shredding the slopes!

Sun and Surf

The sun isn’t just damaging to your skin. Have you ever noticed that your top layer of your hair gets more split ends than the bottom layers? That’s from sun damage. Be sure to pack a leave-in conditioner for your vacay to avoid pesky, damaged hair. Don’t be afraid to use your sunscreen on your hair as well. It is make it greasy but does the trick to better protect your hair! And don’t forget to touch up your part to avoid a scalp burn! OW! Paul Mitchell has a great line of products to prevent sun damage available at Ulta.

Windy Daze

Excessive exposure to wind can be uber damaging. This can cause as much damage as the sun whether is the chill of the mountains or the warm kiss of Caribbean winds. Hats will be your best bet for protecting your hair but if you’re not a fan of hat hair, take care of the damage with Mane ‘n Tail Straight Arrow available at Walmart. This product is perfect for both straight and curly hair by providing a little extra boost and moisture from the harsh wind.

Not-So Dry Humor

Dry hair is the worst, so avoid it by bringing a low maintenence mask. No one has 10-15 minutes to sit in a hair mask on vacation, so bring one that only takes five, like Organix’s Macadamia Mask. It smells delicious and is sold at Target. Leave it in and protect your hair from the moisture soaking salt of the sea and the dry air of the mountains.

Shower, Schmower

You could be backpacking in Europe with no showers, or just wanting a break from the every day shower scene. Don’t worry, it’ll be our little secret. Go a few more days without washing your hair and use my all-time favorite product: Bed Head Oh! Bee Hive Dry Shampoo at Target. It maintains volume and cuts down grease, and might I add it smells DELICIOUS. A little break from everyday hair washing can be good for hair growth and to help out the nautral oils in our hair and scalp. Spring break is the perfect time for a little break, and dry shampoo can help!
