Series of three or four numbers that one might see over and over in their daily life are called angel numbers. It’s believed that the repetition of these numbers can symbolize a sign that another divine power is trying to send to you. Depending on the numbers being repeated, angel numbers can send messages about love, relationships, the future, goals, affirmations, warnings, and everything in between. I’m not here to affirm or reject any opinions about whether or not angel numbers are actually “real” or hold real sway in the grand scheme of life, but I do believe that putting some trust in an angel number could still send you a sign about your life and ultimately set you on the path you’re meant to be on.

what exactly are angel numbers anyway?

Astrology.com defines angel numbers as “sequences of numbers that carry divine guidance by referring to specific numerological meanings.” (I love Astrology.com, so most of my other information/definitions were supplemented by the website as well) Definitions vary, though, and some refer to guardian angels or spirit guides, but the consensus seems to be that angel numbers are sent as a form of communication from a higher power or just from the universe in general.

It is said that one might experience angel numbers appearing as a sort of “nudge” from the divine to either pay attention to their intuition or to steer them away from something that could eventually lead to trouble. Angel numbers often send messages about guidance, balance, love, courage, and other forms of personal growth or self-reflection.

Where can you see angel numbers?

Part of the beauty of angel numbers is that you should be able to see them in the most unexpected and unlikely places. For example, seeing the time 2:22 on a clock, getting receipts with the amount $2.22 on them, license plates on random cars having 222 in them.

This repetition can happen with any series of numbers. Most common are the three-digit angel numbers, from 111 to 999, but there are also four-digit combinations with repeated numbers, as well as even just two digits. However, an angel number doesn’t have to be two, three, or four of the same number in a row. There are also less common number combinations that you might still find yourself noticing all the time, like 1212 or 8765, and any combination of numbers that you see repeatedly can still be considered an angel number because of the individual numerology of the numbers, meaning even the most seemingly random combinations could still be symbolic.

some baseline angel numbers

Here are the common, three-digit angel numbers and what they generally represent.

000: wholeness

000 is a highly spiritual angel number symbolizing lots of divine guidance and encouragement to follow your intuition.

111: New Beginnings

111 symbolizes ambition, independence, and confidence, and means that new opportunities are coming.

222: Growth

222 encourages balance, harmony, and companionship, especially in relationships, as well as personal growth.

333: self-expression

333 represents amplified creativity as well as abundance and growth. This number also encourages you to let go of the past and any limiting beliefs.

444: stability

444 is a general representation that you are on the right path; it represents hard work, staying grounded, and is a sign of encouragement.

555: Change

555 is a sign that things are about to change in your life, and it encourages you to have trust in your journey and your intuition.

666: Balance

666 encourages you to specifically balance your material and spiritual perspectives, and to let go of fear.

777: Introspection

777 relates directly to wisdom, personal growth, and being on the right path.

888: optimism

888 symbolizes harmony, unconditional love, and generally can mean that you are about to be rewarded for your hard work.

999: completion

999 represents a transition period or the end of a journey and encourages you to let go of the past to make room for a new phase of your life.

So how can angel numbers change your life?

I don’t want this to come off as a disappointment, but unfortunately, I don’t believe that angel numbers alone can singlehandedly change your life, and they can definitely not “fix” anything by immediately setting you on the right path or anything like that.

However, I do think that there are ways to connect with the world around you that can tell you more about what life has in store for you. Even if you pay attention to an angel number and it ends up not being accurate for you at all, that number can still encourage you to take other aspects of your life into account.

For example, maybe you are starting to face burnout and are becoming demotivated… but then you start seeing 444 everywhere. While 444 can’t give you opportunities or reward you for hard work because it is just a number, it still can provide reassurance. If seeing the number 444 when you desperately need a sign of encouragement can help you feel just a little bit better or more protected in your situation, recognize that reassurance and let it help you!

The law of attraction states that you will receive back what you put out into the universe. If an angel number helps you feel encouraged or optimistic, chances are that a life of encouragement and optimism will find you soon after. Again, not necessarily because one number can do all of that for you, but because even just one angel number can change your perspective and help you look forward to what the universe has in store for you.
