Name/Graduating class: Chance Maginness, Class of 2018

Major: Political science

Favorite Lawrence coffee shop: So, if we’re talking like where I go to actually get coffee, its one-hundred percent Starbucks, all day every day. But if we’re talking what I tell people my favorite coffee shop is, to seem less basic, then it’s La Prima Tazza.

Ideal date night: Okay, so, I have two. The first one is if we’re going for simple and fun. For this one, all a boy would have to do is take me out to like Encore or the Burger Stand or something simple, and then I just wanna go walk up and down Mass Street and talk. Tbh, I’ve always thought going into the Toy Store on a first date would be cute. For a more formal date night, I’ve always wanted to go to Merchants and then go see some kind of musical or play.

Favorite class (thus far): POLS 615, Campaigns and Elections, with Patrick Miller – hands down, no question. PMillz is the greatest. He’s also hilarious and just doesn’t care – but he’s also super smart and really knows what he’s talking about.

Extracurricular involvement: Student Senate. Student Senate. Student Senate. I eat, sleep and breathe Student Senate, and even though I should probably find some other hobbies – why stop doing the thing ya love, ya know?

Favorite food: Honestly, anything that involves chocolate. My favorite chocolate is those little Cadbury Mini-Eggs, but they’re also something that Jessie Pringle loves. So, if you ever have them, don’t bring them around her, because she will eat half of your bag.

Coke or Pepsi: Pepsi, because I respect myself.

What does being a Jayhawk mean to you? Ugh, I don’t know how to say this without sounding sappy. It means everything to me. KU and Lawrence just feel like the place I was always meant to be at this stage in my life, and being a Jayhawk is such a universally shared experience that you know that no matter where you go, you’ll never be alone.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Well I’d be 29 by then, and if my 25-year plan is still on track, I should be a Congressman, married to my husband and our two kids should be just about to have their second birthday. If the plan isn’t on track, then who knows…but still hopefully I’m married by then.

Best memory while at KU: Active tabling for Advance KU. I spent over 15 hours talking to more students than I ever had before, and it was one of the most fun and rewarding experiences ever. Plus, winning the election that night was pretty sweet too.
