5 Ways to Slowly Convert to a Morning(-ish) Person

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

I get it. Whether you’re just getting back to school, going back to work, or you’re just plain tired of the month of January, the lack of motivation is at an all time high right now. You’re probably thinking that there’s no getting out of this slump. Well, I’m back and here to help you out by sharing tips to get you back on your feet and pumped for the day with these five ways to help you slowly convert to a morning(-ish) person.

  1. Plan out your day ahead of time.

Planning out my day has really helped my attitude do a full 180 about mornings. If you have a plan of what you’re doing tomorrow, you’ll be more motivated to actually get up and complete those tasks. Not only does having a plan and completing all you set out to do really help your productivity, but it also can increase your mood, because what’s better than checking things off your already never-ending list of to-do’s?

2.  Have a good breakfast.

If your pediatrician didn’t tell you enough, here it is again: BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY! Don’t skip it, and don’t settle for the granola bar that I know you grab when you’re walking out the door last minute every morning (#exposed). Getting up and having an actual, nutritious, balanced breakfast is life changing! You’ve got to fuel your body with what it needs to function! Having a yummy breakfast will set the tone for the rest of your day. If your body is ready to go, you will be too!

3.   Start your day with a workout.

I love the feeling I get after a workout at any time of day, but in the morning, there’s something about fresh air and getting your heart pumping that really sets it apart. Something about this feeling wakes you up and gets you ready to take on a busy day.

4.   Shower in the morning.

This one seems pretty self explanatory in my opinion. Self care is important and should 100% be the first priority of anyone, so it’s no surprise when I say that taking a morning shower will not only wake you up, but also leave you feeling clean, refreshed, and refocused on the next 24 hours.

5.   Go for the caffeine.

Coffee always has your back… or tea, or energy drinks, or wherever you get your caffeine. I was never a huge coffee drinker until I had to make a three and a half drive home in the dark. I stopped at Starbucks to get some sort of cold brew concoction, and bang! I was alarmingly awake and hyped. I guess that’s what happens when you give your body a higher volume of caffeine than it’s used to. And who says no to iced coffee? (Even in this ungodly COLD weather.)

I hope that following these five tips can help you get back into the swing of things after coming back from break. It won’t happen overnight, but implementing a few of these each day could really help motivate you to get up and get going in the AM. If not, just hang on, girl. There’s less than 40 days until spring break!
